I happened to be doodling in my sketch pad while watching the Dance Macabre episode. (For those of you that may not know, that episode is loosely based on the story of The Pied Piper. In the Pied Piper Story itself, a musician leads the mice and rats out of a town by playing music.)

The idea of the color palette came from what I thought might be used in very old story books.
