This is another design inspired by what seems to be the never ending sock project.  (As a refresher or for those of you who don’t know, in 2013, I was in a bit of a design rut.  So, for the month of February, I took a picture of the socks I wore every day. (I picked the month of February because it’s the shortest month.)

Initially, I pictured doing the design the same day I wore the socks.  As you can see that didn’t happen!)

These socks feature neon color piano keys on a black background.

The first step I did was draw a picture of a keyboard using markers.  I then scanned it in the computer and traced it in the graphics program.

Drawing of Piano Key Design

I drew the picture with the markers that seemed to match the original color palette of the socks.  When I used the eye dropper tool to get the colors, it read them as being more pastel than neon.  Worked for me!

As you can see in the drawing, the original background was made up of music notes.  However, I felt it was too simple and lacked something.

On a whim, I decided to add the blue sky and fluffy white clouds.  Maybe it was my love of old trapper keeper and Lisa Frank designs.  To me, this design looks like a mash up of the two.

Have you ever been in a rut?  How did you get out of it?
